As part of the 50th anniversary celebrations for the founding of the People's Republic of China, Beijing hosted the opening ceremony of the 1999 China TV Program Fair on June 16.
Based in Beijing's International Exhibition Center, the fair is reckoned to be the largest of its kind in the world.
More than 600 TV stations and some 3,000 TV news representatives from the United States, France, Japan, Australia, Singapore, Korea, Japan, Malaysia and Colombia have registered for the fair.
During the four-day event, international guests will watch newly produced documentaries and TV dramas both at home and from abroad. Advanced TV apparatus and equipment will also be on display at the exhibition.
A series of seminars on the making of documentaries, international news programs and the prospects for the TV industry in the new century will be topics for experts from China, the United States, Great Britain and other countries.
The fair is co-sponsored by the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television (SARFT) and Beijing Municipal Government.
