Vice-Premier Attends University Students Art Festival
Li Lanqing, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and vice-premier of the State Council, attended the 1999 National University Students Art Festival in Beijing on Wednesday night. He was also joined by representatives of a national education meeting and of teachers and students from universities in the Chinese capital.
The festival, entitled "the Motherland in My Heart", was co-launched by the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Culture, the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television, the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League of China, and the Beijing Municipal Government for commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the May 4th Movement.
All the programs of the festival were compiled, directed and performed by university students from across the nation.
In a meeting with university students following the end of the festival, Li called on Chinese students to work even harder to improve their overall qualities and contribute to the great cause of socialist construction.
Qian Weichang, vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, attended tonight's event.
