Fifth Int'l Conference on Advanced Materials in Beijing

  The Fifth International Conference on Advanced Materials, sponsored by the International Union of Materials Research Societies, opened in Beijing on June 14.

  More than 1,700 scientists from nearly 50 countries and regions are expected to tell about their latest research in materials science during the five-day conference.

  They will cover nanotechnology, superconductors, intermetallic compounds, intelligent materials, biomedical materials, and other areas and will provide exhibits of advanced materials and related equipment.

  Analysts say that materials science is one of the new frontiers of science and China has given priority to developing the field.

  The biennial conference has been held in the United States, Mexico, Japan, and France. (Xinhua)
