Fifth Int'l Conference on Advanced Materials in Beijing

����The Fifth International Conference on Advanced Materials, sponsored by the International Union of Materials Research Societies, opened in Beijing on June 14.

����More than 1,700 scientists from nearly 50 countries and regions are expected to tell about their latest research in materials science during the five-day conference.

����They will cover nanotechnology, superconductors, intermetallic compounds, intelligent materials, biomedical materials, and other areas and will provide exhibits of advanced materials and related equipment.

����Analysts say that materials science is one of the new frontiers of science and China has given priority to developing the field.

����The biennial conference has been held in the United States, Mexico, Japan, and France. (Xinhua)
