Chinese Leader Concludes Visit to Egypt
Chinese leader Li Ruihuan left Alexandria on May 26 for Beijing after winding up his first official visit to Egypt.
During the six-day visit, Li, Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, met with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak and Prime Minister Kamal El-Ganzouri.
He also held talks with Speaker of the Egyptian People's Assembly, or parliament, Ahmed Fathi Sorour and Speaker of the Egyptian Shura (Consultative) Council Mustafa Kamal Helmy.
During these meetings and talks, Li said China and Egypt have established sincere and solid friendship and carried out close cooperation since the two countries set up diplomatic ties in 1956.
The Sino-Egyptian relations have withstood constant changes in the international arena, Li said, adding Beijing and Cairo have offered support and cooperation to each other in tackling international issues.
On the economic globalization, Li called on the developing countries to seize every opportunity to develop themselves in the process. Meanwhile, he cautioned that these countries should select their development roads in conformity with reality.
Li also urged the developing countries to strengthen cooperation in an effort to promote the establishment of a just and new world order of politics and economy.
On the Middle East peace process, the Chinese leader called on Israel to abide by the relevant UN resolutions and the land-for-peace principle in a bid to push the peace process forward.
The Egyptian leaders shared Li's views on bilateral ties and the international political and economic issues. They voiced Egypt's readiness to work with China to boost such ties to a new level.
Before his visit to Egypt, the Chinese leader has traveled to South Korea, the United Arab Emirates and Oman.
