Heroic Resistance

By Lu Yansong, Our Staff Reporter in Yugoslavia

NATO's wanton bombing attacks on Yugoslavia have continued for over 60 days, this beautiful land of only 100,000 sq km has sustained the impact of around 10,000 tons of explosives.

Recently, NATO's heavy bombing of power plants and high voltage power transmission lines has plunged the Yugoslav people into more difficult living condition. Belgrade and several dozen other cities have experienced power cut and suspension of tap water supply. Bakeries are unable to continue normal production, it is nothing new that residents have to line up to buy cold and hard breads left over from the previous night.

On May 24, when he visited the Belgrade Children's Hospital, this reporter had a personal experience in regard to the great suffering sustained by the Yugoslav people. Since the hospital's nearby areas were repeatedly bombarded, most patients had been sent home. Due to power shortages, four operating rooms were forced to close. What worries doctors most is the shortfall of power. Some seriously ill children need tutelage round the clock, and their lives are under serious threat.

The Yugoslav people have been living under the condition of trembling with fear for over two months, thus seriously ruining their physical and mental health. In addition, the ecological environment has been damaged, many fruit and vegetables become uneatable, people fear how could they live on under such circumstance.

NATO's bombing has destroyed Yugoslavia. The aggressors can cause suspension of water and power supplies, but the heroic Yugoslavian people will not submit. As their predecessors were unafraid of the brutal force during World War II, half a century later, descendants of the heroic Yugoslav people are continuing their valiant resistance.
