Russian Duma Confirms Stepashin as New PM
The Russian State Duma on May 19 confirmed Sergei Stepashin as the country's new Prime Minister.
Stepashin, 47, was nominated by President Boris Yeltsin on May 12 following the dismissal of the cabinet of Yevgeny Primakov.
Stepashin's nomination was endorsed by a vote of 393-55 with 14 abstentions at the Lower House of Parliament.
