Beijing Mayor Consults World Business Leaders for Future Plans
Business leaders and representatives of 17 influential companies or institutions converged on Beijing on May 19 to work on plans for its future development.
Beijing announced last month that it would establish an "International Business Leaders Advisory Council for the Mayor of Beijing" to get business expertise from overseas for local economic development.
Today's participants included John Mack, CEO and President of Morgan Stanley Dean Witter Group, Tasuku Takagaki, Chairman of the Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi, Martin Bouygues, CEO and President of Bouygues, Sven-Christer Nilsson, CEO and President of Ericsson, and representatives from Ford, Microsoft, and other major companies.
Mayor Liu Qi said that Beijing has many urgent issues that need to be tackled in transport, population control, environmental protection, technology, and industry.
He expressed the hope that the world's major companies can cooperate more with Beijing and give the Chinese capital more support in economic development.
The mayor pledged to make a greater effort to improve the investment environment and opening up of the capital.
