Chinese Premier Meets with Vietnamese Visitor

Premier Zhu Rongji met on May 19 in Beijing with Nguyen Tan Dung, a Political Bureau member of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee and Standing Deputy Prime Minister. Premier Zhu Rongji told his guest that the Chinese Communist Party (CPC) Central Committee and the Chinese Government place great emphasis on the first visit by him to China since General Secretary of the CPV Central Committee Le Kha Phieu came.

Zhu said he hoped that during the current visit the two sides would deepen mutual understanding, trust and friendship by exchanging views on the theory and practice of socialist construction so as to push forward the socialist construction and opening up and reforms in their respective countries.

During Le Kha Phieu's visit this February, Zhu said, top Party leaders reached a comprehensive consensus on party-to-party relations, bilateral ties, and international issues of common concern.

The statement about establishing long-term, stable good-neighborly and comprehensively cooperative relations oriented to the future marked a new stage in relations between the two parties and the two countries, he said.

He said he believes that as long as both sides march towards a common goal the friendship between the two parties and the two countries and their peoples will pass on from generation to generation.

The Vietnamese leader said that relations between the two countries have seen progress since Le Kha Phieu's visit and that there is great potential for the two countries' economic cooperation and trade.

He said that he hopes bilateral cooperation in various fields will be further expanded. (Xinhua)
