Chinese Premier Meets with Hong Kong Bankers
Premier Zhu Rongji met on May 19 in Beijing with a delegation of the Hong Kong Association of Banks led by Joseph Yam, chief executive of Hong Kong Monetary Authority. The Premier talked with the guests about the current economic situation of the mainland, stability of the financial market, and the effort for a strengthening of financial cooperation with Hong Kong.
Zhu said he hopes that Hong Kong's bankers can actively participate in the mainland's economic development and reform process and increase economic and trade relations with the mainland.
Joseph Yam said that Hong Kong's financiers will certainly make a greater contribution to economic and trade cooperation with the mainland.
The delegation members are here at the invitation of the Bank of China. They were scheduled to visit the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council, People's Bank of China, the China Securities Regulatory Commission, State Administration of Exchange Control, and the Bank of China and also plan to visit Shanghai.
