China Beat U.S. 2-1 in Women's Soccer Friendly
China took a sweet revenge to beat the U.S. national women's soccer team 2-1 in a friendly game warming up for this summer's World Cup Sunday in New Jersey.
Zhang Ouying blasted in a low shot in the third minute of overtime to sail the winning.
The victory snapped a 50-game winning streak kept by the U. S. team and gave the U.S. a 1-2 record in one month against China. The U.S. is now 8-3-1 this year.
The winner came on a counter attack when midfielder Bai Jie played a long ball to Zhang, who had come on as a substitute in the 82nd minute. Zhang wasted no time to unleash a low shot past U. S. goalkeeper Briana Scurry.
China opened the scoring in the 14th minute when U.S. defender Carla Overbeck made a mistake which brought the ball to Sun Wen on the left flank.
Sun carried the ball into the box and hit a left-footed chip over Scurry just under the bar.
Julie Foudy tied the mark when she got a pass from Cindy Parlow and chipped a short shot over the head of Chinese goalie Gao Hong.
The last time the U.S. team lost to a rival on their home soil was in February of 1996.
