Chinese President Meets U.S. Journalists
Chinese President Jiang Zemin said on February 5 that
news media will play an important and positive role in increasing
exchanges and cooperation between China and the international
community.
ˇˇˇˇJiang met with Norman Pearlstine, editor-in-chief of
US-based Time Inc. and noted that China needs to enhance
exchanges with the international community in order to further
promote mutual understanding and cooperation.

Monument Erected to Mark Great Strike
ˇWWei Jianxing, a Standing Committee member of the
Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee Political
Bureau, unveiled a 27-meter monument in Wuhan on February 5
to mark the 76th anniversary of the Great Strike on February 7,
1923.
