BEIJING, Nov. 12 (Xinhua) -- The Communist Party of China's (CPC) Beijing municipal committee and Beijing municipal government on Wednesday issued a thank-you letter to citizens for their support during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) week.
Leaders from APEC economies attended the annual meeting from Nov. 5 in Beijing, which concluded Tuesday.
In the letter, "sincere gratitude and highest respect" was expressed to the citizens of Beijing for their "unselfish contribution" to this event.
"This event is the largest and highest-profile international activity held in China since the 2008 Olympics," the letter said, adding that citizens' contributions during the meetings had been widely recognized.
The letter was published on the official Beijing municipal government website as well as the Wednesday edition of several local newspapers such as the Beijing Daily and Beijing Morning Post.
To ensure good environment and security for the meetings, extra holidays were scheduled, traffic restrictions enforced as well as enhanced security checks and factory suspensions imposed in Beijing and some surrounding areas during this period.
Thousands of volunteers were also mobilized to support security efforts and relevant services during the APEC meetings.
