How young entrepreneurs view government’s role

Young entrepreneurs have emerged with knowledge in 1990s in China. Courageous and innovative, they are the new generation of social elites. The group including Jack Ma of Alibaba, Pony Ma of Tencent, Robin Li of Baidu, are entrepreneurial rock stars in China who also influential around the world.

Young entrepreneurs are effective strength for a country’s economic development; their attitude on the government will help government examine itself; and in order to facilitate a greater role for the market. Better understanding of the relationship between government and enterprises is a big issue which facilitates the government to play a greater role in the market.

A recent survey that involved in 2,036 young Chinese entrepreneurs from 31 provinces across the country tried to find out how they see the government’s role in the market.

Young entrepreneurs have positive feedback on government and its acts

As for government’s macro-economic policy, 64.2 percent of respondents believe that the government’s current policy and regulation are favorable to enterprises’ development; and 61.2 percent, 59.5 percent and 53.7 percent agree with the statements that “government reduced interventions on enterprises’ operation and administration”, “government provides good service on financing”, and “government can provide valuable information for enterprises development”.

In terms of the government’s practical measure to boost enterprises development, most surveyed young entrepreneurs spoke highly of the following measures including “green passage to administrative approvals”, “security of person and property”, and “honest government officials”.

On the country’s efforts to gradually deepen economic restructuring, most young entrepreneurs surveyed think China has achieved outstanding achievements by promoting a series of reforming measures, especially enterprises-related measures. 58.9 percent of them recognized that “China is building serving-type of government”, 54.1 percent, 50.7 percent and 48.3 percent of the surveyed believe that China is doing well in improving “social security system”, ”development of non state-owned enterprise”, and “financial and taxation system”.

Overall, young entrepreneurs gave good marks to the government’s policy, acts and measures. The scores of “Rule-of-law government”, “severing-type government” and “credible government” are 7.22, 7.2 and 6.85 out of 10 respectively.
