German automaker BMW will recall 25,254 vehicles in China due to a problem with the power brake system starting from Feb. 17, 2014, China's consumer quality watchdog said Saturday.
The recall affects 4,083 vehicles manufactured by BMW Brilliance Automotive Ltd., a joint venture of BMW with Brilliance China Automotive, between April 2, 2012 and April 22, 2013, the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine said in a statement.
Other vehicles involved in the recall were imported by the BMW China Automotive Trading Ltd. between Feb. 23, 2012 and Aug. 30, 2013, including 125i, 320i, 328i, 520i, 528i, X1, X3 and Z4 models.
Some of those vehicles may have a defective design of the intake camshaft, a part of the engine. The defect may lead to drops in power braking assist and pose safety hazards, the statement said.
The two companies will check the involved vehicles to eliminate risks for car owners.
