At the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping, Queen of Denmark Margrethe II and her husband Prince Consort will pay a state visit to China from April 24 to 28, according to the Danish Embassy in China Thursday.
According to Danish Ambassador to China Friis Arne Petersen, along with the Queen and the Prince will also be Danish ministers of foreign affairs, trade and development, science and technology and food, agriculture and fisheries as well as a delegation of Danish company representatives.
During her stay in Beijing, the Queen will meet President Xi Jinping, Premier Li Keqiang and Chairman of the NPC Standing Committee Zhang Dejiang respectively. She will attend a state dinner with President Xi. Besides, she will also be visiting Nanjing, Suzhou, Jiaxing and Shanghai.
It will be the second time for the Danish Queen to visit China in 35 years. In 1979 she visited China the first time and became the first Western Monarch to do so.
According to Ambassador Petersen, the purpose of the visit will be to further strengthen bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership and promote cooperation in politics, trade, sustainable economic development, cultural exchanges and scientific innovation between Denmark and China.
"There will be a very big number of government-to-government agreements to be signed during the visit, especially on the 24th and 25th; they will cover very important areas such as agriculture, food security, energy, tourism, green shipping and green ship building," he said.
