BEIJING, April 15 -- Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Tuesday stressed the Ukraine crisis should be solved through dialogue rather than confrontation.
Wang made the remarks at a joint press conference with visiting Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov after their closed-door meeting.
China welcomed potential Russia-U.S.-EU-Ukraine talks on the issue, according to Wang, who stressed that the key to success of the talks is to take care of the reasonable interests and concerns of all sides.
He expressed wishes that the multilateral talks will find a solution acceptable to all sides.
As a friend of the Ukrainian people, China does not want continued volatility in Ukraine, Wang said, noting that the Ukraine issue has complicated historical origins.
The justified rights and wishes of various regions and ethnic groups in Ukraine should be taken into account, he said.
China upholds an impartial and objective stance on the issue, Wang said, and will continue to play a constructive role in seeking a proper solution.
