The incident of Malaysian Airlines Flight MH370 should not affect any aspect of the friendly relationship between Malaysia and China, said Majid Ahmad Khan, former Malaysian ambassador to China.

In an interview with Xinhua in Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday, Majid said "in this time of difficulties, both our countries, our authorities are working very closely together. I think through working together our relationship after this incident will be much stronger."

"As you know, Malaysia and China have ancient ties and we have cooperated very closely in all fields. We have very strong exchanges both at government to government and people to people levels," he said.

Majid, who is also president of the Malaysia-China Friendship Association, said, "we should look into the future. This is just like families. When families actually have tragedies among themselves, they are close together, they will have more understanding of each other. So I am confident that Malaysia and China relations will actually be much stronger after this incident. "

Asked to comment on what the Malaysian government has done in dealing with the missing flight incident, he said, "The government, to my mind, has not hidden anything. Of course, there are limitations because Malaysia is a small country, it does not have enough expertise or resources."

"In the search operation , Malaysia is supported by 26 countries and even with this multi-national effort, Malaysia has not been able to be very successful. So from here we can see the complexity of this incident," he added.

Commenting on China's participation in the search operation, Majid said that from the very beginning, the Chinese government has devoted asset, resources and personnel in supporting the rescue and research efforts."

"The Chinese authorities from the day one has extended full cooperation and understanding on this issue," he said.
