BEIJING, March 8 -- China will make sure that China-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination continues to grow from strength to strength, Foreign Minister Wang Yi said at a press conference on Saturday.

"The current China-Russia relationship is at its best period in history, characterized by high-level of mutual trust, firm support of each other and intensifying cooperation in various fields," Wang told reporters on the sidelines of China's annual legislative session.

Wang congratulated Russia on its hosting of an "unforgettable and spectacular" Winter Olympic Games in Sochi.

Chinese President Xi Jinping attended the opening ceremony of the Sochi Olympics in February and met his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin for talks on bilateral ties.

"Our two presidents have established a deep friendship, and they played an important role in guiding China-Russia relationship," the minister said.

Speaking of China-Russia ties in 2014, Wang said the most important task is to make sure that China-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination will continue to grow from strength to strength.

"We will continue to strengthen mutual political trust and intensify strategic cooperation," Wang added.

One of the priorities is to spare no effort in upgrading practical cooperation between China and Russia and to make new breakthroughs in cooperation on some big projects, according to Wang.

Another task is to organize a successful China-Russia Youth Year of Friendship Exchanges to consolidate and deepen the social foundation for China-Russia friendship.

The minister also called for the two countries to work together to uphold the victory of the Second World War and post-war international order.

Wang said that China and Russia will make good preparations for the year 2015, which marks the 70th anniversary of the victory of the World Anti-Fascist War and the victory of the Chinese People's War Against Japanese Aggression.
