Tanzania joins China in mourning people killed in terrorist attack

DAR ES SALAAM, March 4-- Tanzanian President Jakaya Kikwete on Tuesday sent a condolence message to President Xi Jinping of the People's Republic of China following a terrorist attack that killed 29 people and injured more than 140 others in southwest China city of Kunming.

Kikwete said in a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation that he has received with great shock and sadness, the devastating news on the terrorist attack that occurred on March 1 at the square in front of the Kunming Railway Station and the ticket hall.

"In this tragic moment and ordeal, I wish, on behalf of the government and people of the United Republic of Tanzania, and indeed on my own behalf, to convey our deepest condolences to Your Excellency, and through you, to the government and people of China, especially the family of the victims who have lost their loved ones and who have been severely injured by the attacks," he said.

Kikwete said his government strongly condemned the attack and called for the perpetrators to be brought to justice to face the crimes committed.
