BEIJING, Feb. 27 -- China and Vietnam have agreed to establish a direct phone line between their defense ministries, said Chinese Defense Ministry spokesman Yang Yujun here on Thursday.

"This will help the two sides strengthen their military mutual trust, strategic communication and cooperation," Yang told a regular press briefing.

He said China has sent a delegation to Vietnam to discuss establishing the line, and both sides agreed to try to put it into use within this year.
