BEIJING, March 10 -- The Natural Resources Defense Council's China Program issued a report on Monday advising the country to make laws concerning nuclear security as soon as possible.

The report also suggested that China establish a mechanism to publish nuke security information, allow the public to have a say in related issues and compensate for possible nuclear harm.

China now has a radioactive contamination prevention and control law enacted in 2003, and the lack of nuclear security laws weakens the supervision of nuclear energy development, said the report.

China saw rapid nuclear power growth in recent years, but became cautious about the approval of new nuke programs after Japan's Fukushima nuclear fallout in 2011.
