BEIJING, Feb. 27-- The Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) Thursday announced the resignation of Li Dongsheng, a NPC deputy elected from southwest China's Sichuan Province.

Li was general manager of the Sichuan branch of China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC), China's largest oil and gas producer and supplier.

The Standing Committee of the Sichuan Provincial People's Congress accepted Li's resignation earlier and submitted a report for final confirmation to the NPC Standing Committee at its bi-monthly session that closed here Thursday.

The announcement did not reveal why Li resigned.
