BEIJING, March 27 -- The Chinese military has dispatched 100,000 troops to provide security for large-scale public events in recent years, a Defense Ministry spokesman said on Thursday.

Spokesman Geng Yansheng said at a regular press briefing that the duties of Chinese military in fighting terrorism include investigation, protection, disposition and rescue, in accordance with the National Defense Law and the Emergency Response Law.

China's military has organized professional training on anti-terrorism and provided security for large-scale events including the Beijing Olympic Games in 2008 and the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, he said.

He noted that the Chinese military is determined to work with government departments to fight any kind of terrorist activity.
