HONGKONG, August 1 (ChinaMil) -- The Hong Kong Garrison of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) held a reception marking the 86th anniversary of the founding of the PLA in the Stonecutters Island Barracks on the night of July 31, 2013. This is the 10th "August 1" reception the PLA Hong Kong Garrison has hosted since 2004.
Tung Chee Hwa, vice chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), and Mrs. Tung, Leung Chun Ying, chief executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), and Mrs. Leung, Donald Tsang Yam-kuen, former chief executive of the HKSAR (2005–2012), Song Zhe, commissioner of the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China in the HKSAR, Wang Zhimin, deputy director of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the HKSAR, Wang Xiaojun and Yue Shixin, respectively commander and political commissar of the PLA Hong Kong Garrison, were the officiating guests of honour of the reception.
Around 300 other honored guests, including principal officials of the HKSAR Government, leading officials of the organs of the Central People's Government in the HKSAR, deputies to the National People's Congress (NPC) and members of the Standing Committee of the CPPCC National Committee in the HKSAR, officials of foreign consulates in the HKSAR and other celebrities, were also invited to the reception.
In his address, Wang Xiaojun reviewed the history of and fruits achieved by the PLA. He extended his heartfelt respects for those who sacrificed their lives for the country and said that he will always remember that "the development of the Chinese military can not be separated from support and assistance from the people, from the hard work by each officer and men, and from selfless contributions by their families."
Wang Xiaojun said that the PLA Hong Kong Garrison insists on stationing troops and performing defense duties according to law, supports the HKSAR Government in its administration according to law, actively organizes open and non-profit activities and external exchanges, has increasingly close relations with the people as well as all sectors of Hong Kong and also has increasing exchanges with foreign militaries.
Wang Xiaojun hoped that the PLA Hong Kong Garrison would seek closer cooperation with all sectors in Hong Kong in the future, so as to make new contributions to maintaining peace, prosperity and stability of Hong Kong and the world at large.
