HEFEI, March 27 -- A senior leader of the Communist Party of China (CPC) on Thursday urged officials to continue carrying out the "mass line" campaign as he visited a village in east China's Anhui Province that is known as a headstream of China's rural reform.

Launched in June 2013, the campaign is aimed at making government more accessible to the public, while cleaning up undesirable work styles -- formalism, bureaucracy, hedonism and extravagance.

During a three-day tour of Anhui, Liu Yunshan, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the CPC, visited Xiaogang Village, Fengyang County.

Referring to villagers' 1978 invention of an agricultural model under which households had contracted responsibilities, Liu said creative heroes can be found among the people, and they should be trusted and relied upon in deepening reform.

He also stressed the selection and promotion of officials, urging strict supervision over the implementation of the revised official appointment regulation.

The second phase of the mass line campaign is scheduled to run from January to September 2014, targeting more low-level departments and leaderships, while the first phase was focused on central and provincial-level departments.
