BEIJING, March 6 -- The ongoing investigation into the separatist activities of a Uygur teacher is in line with China's law, said Nur Bekri, chairman of the regional government of northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region Thursday.
"The facts are clear and the evidences are irrefutable," Nur Bekri, who was attending the annual session of the country's top legislature in Beijing, told reporters after a panel discussion.
Police authorities said in January that a meticulous investigation had proved that Ilham Tohti, a Uygur teacher from Minzu University of China in Beijing, formed a separatist group headed by him and undertook separatist activities under the disguise of his identity.
"China is a country ruled by law. We will safeguard his legal rights while he is under investigation," Nur Bekri said.
