BEIJING, Feb. 26 -- The Standing Committee of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), China's top political advisory body, met on Wednesday to prepare for a key annual session of the CPPCC National Committee.
Wednesday's meeting, presided over by CPPCC National Committee Chairman Yu Zhengsheng, approved a decision to hold the second annual session of the 12th CPPCC National Committee, which is due to start on March 3.
The meeting also heard explanations on the draft schedule and agenda for the upcoming session as well as a draft report concerning the handling of proposals raised from last year's session.
At Wednesday's meeting, CPPCC National Committee members delivered reports summarizing last year's work in the economy, the environment, culture and education, legal affairs and other aspects.
Founded in 1949, the CPPCC serves as a key mechanism for multi-party cooperation and political consultation under the leadership of the Communist Party of China. It consists of elite figures from Chinese society who are willing to serve the think tank for the government and for the country's legislative and judicial organs.
