People's Daily urges efforts to enhance CPC-people relations

BEIJING, June 19 (Xinhua) -- The People's Daily, the flagship newspaper of the Communist Party of China (CPC), on Wednesday carried an editorial calling for more efforts to enhance ties between the CPC and the public.

The editorial said maintaining solid CPC-people relations is key to enhancing the CPC's work style.

An education campaign promoting the concepts of serving the people, pragmatism and clean governance is coming, it said.

Xi Jinping, general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, said Tuesday that the main task of the year-long campaign will be to build a new work style.

The editorial said the work style of a ruling party is essential to the rise and fall of a nation, and, for a ruling Marxist party, the biggest potential danger comes from its divorce from the masses.

It said the campaign is a major effort to enhance the management of the CPC and live up to people's expectations.

The article said relations between the CPC and the people are facing grave challenges, as undesirable elements such as formalism, bureaucratism, hedonism and extravagance are undermining relations.

The article urged CPC members to realize self-purification, self-perfection, self-renewal and self-progression during the campaign.

It also called for efforts to ensure the effectiveness of the campaign.
