BEIJING, March 7 (Xinhua) -- The Secretariat of the first session of the 12th National People's Congress (NPC) expressed condolences Wednesday night after the sudden death of a deputy.
Shao Zhanwei, a deputy to the NPC, China's top legislature, died of a heart attack in Beijing Wednesday afternoon during the ongoing annual session. Shao is also mayor of Hangzhou, capital of east China's Zhejiang Province.
Shao, born in February 1956, became mayor of Hangzhou in February 2011, according to the official website of Hangzhou government.
