ISLAMABAD, May 6 -- Pakistan has sent emergency relief supplies for those affected by the landslide in Afghanistan's northeastern Badakhshan Province, Pakistan's Foreign Ministry said Tuesday.

On the instructions of Prime Minister Mohammad Nawaz Sharif, the first flight of C-130 carrying relief supplies has reached Faizabad, the capital of Badakhshan on Tuesday.

The consignment contains essential emergency relief items, including tents, blankets, and water purification tablets.

Earlier, in his message of sympathy and condolences to Afghan President Hamid Karzai, the prime minister said the people of Pakistan stand shoulder-to-shoulder with their Afghan brethren as they brave this tragic natural disaster.

Thousands of people were feared dead in a landslide in the mountainous Aab Bareek village of Argo district in Badakhshan.
