BEIJING, April 11 -- An earthquake of 7 magnitude jolted the sea off the coast of Papua New Guinea at 3:07 p.m. Beijing Time Friday, according to the China Earthquake Networks Center.
The epicenter, with a focal depth of 50 km, was initially determined to be at 6.6 degrees south latitude and 155 degrees east longitude.
The Tsunami Warning Center of the State Oceanic Administration said in a statement that tsunami is expected after the quake in areas near the epicenter.
The tsunami is unlikely to cause disastrous effect on China, it adds.
