Obama rallies supporters to help with Obamacare enrollment

WASHINGTON, Nov. 18 -- U.S. President Barack Obama sought to rally supporters Monday to help with the enrollment of the error-ridden centerpiece of his signature health care overhaul.

Obama held a conference call with his supporters hosted by Organizing for Action, a political group born from his re-election campaign.

He once again admitted the problems with the HealthCare.gov website, an online insurance marketplace that has served as the centerpiece of the Affordable Care Act, the country's largest health care reform in decades and often dubbed as Obamacare.

But he promised a quick fix to the website plagued with an array of problems since its debut on Oct. 1.

"The good news is it's getting better every single week," Obama said. "I am confident that by the end of this month it is going to be functioning for the vast majority of folks."

During the call, Obama tried to enlist his supporters to get people to enroll in health insurance plans through the federal online marketplace.

"My main message is, I'm going to need your help," said Obama.

The president encouraged his supporters to talk face-to-face with their neighbors, friends, and family members about the health care overhaul and use holiday parties and family gatherings to encourage other people to purchase insurance.

Obama stressed that the botched rollout created "a lot of this misinformation" about the law and used the call to accuse Republicans of complicating the efforts to get problems fixed.

"Obviously, we haven't been getting a lot of cooperation from the other party," he said.

Organizers said over 200,000 individuals accessed the teleconference.

The flawed website of the Obamacare has undergone failures since its debut on Oct. 1 and was almost out of service during the first two weeks of operation. Many consumers have reported difficulties of signing up and getting enrolled.

Federal officials announced last week that only about 106,000 people signed up for coverage in the online marketplace under the Obamacare in its first month. The figure is well below the administration's expectations to enroll 500,000 people by the end of October.

The Obama administration has vowed to fix the broken website by the end of this month.
