ISTANBUL, June 3 (Xinhua) -- About 250,000 public workers and servants will stage a strike on Tuesday against the government's crackdown on demonstrators in Istanbul's city center in the past week, the Confederation of Public Sector Trade Unions announced on Monday.
According to the confederation, the strike will start at noon Tuesday.
The strike, which was initially set to protest against the upcoming changes in the public sector workers' law, was moved ahead to June 4 due to the ongoing Gezi Park protests.
The confederation will meet with representatives from the Confederation of Progressive Trade Unions, the Turkish Medical Association, the Turkish Engineers Association and the Turkish Architects Associations later Monday to further discuss the strike.
The week-long protests started as a reaction against the demolition of Gezi Park in Istanbul and later turned into clashes between the police forces and protesters.
Anti-government protests have spread to 67 provinces across Turkey, including the capital Ankara and the coastal cities of Antalya and Izmir.
About 200 people have been injured in the clashes and thousands were detained.
