Customers, Government officials, and domestic automakers are viewing from different angles the impact upon them, which is brought by China's WTO entry, a landmark event of great importance to suggest China's further opening to the outside world.
After a prolonged WTO negotiation of 15 years, China is permitted to gradually cut its auto tariff within five to six years to 25 percent on July 1, 2006. This will give the domestic automakers time to grow up and get ready to cope with challenges brought upon them by the "wolves' coming".
While quite a few common people in China do not have compassion for the domestic auto industry and hope they could buy imported cars or home-made ones as soon as possible at 50 percent discount. This should be attributed to the high tariff and price. The hard pressure to be brought by foreign "wolves" will gradually make China's car prices to be on a par with that of the international market, thereby bringing the common people in China closer to their car dreams.
