Nepal's Minister for Foreign Affairs Pradeep Kumar Gyawali said in a recent interview that the upcoming visit of Chinese President to Nepal is of historic significance and the Nepali people attach very high priority to the long awaited visit. Gyawali believes the visit of Xi will enhance understanding and mutual political trust between the two countries and be helpful in exploring new areas of cooperation for mutual benefits.
Chinese President Xi Jinping paid a state visit to Nepal at the invitation of his Nepali counterpart Bidya Devi Bhandari. It is his first state visit to the country, and also the first one paid by a Chinese President in 23 years.
