Recently, the Belt and Road Initiative has increased its appeal in the West. On March 23, 2019, Italy signed a Memorandum of Understanding, or MoU, with China on the joint advancement of the BRI, becoming the first G7 nation to join the initiative.

After the first session of the BRNN council, delegates from foreign council members of the BRNN will attend the opening ceremony of the 2nd BRF, and carry out investigations and interviews in Beijing.
Li Baoshan, President of the flagship newspaper of the Communist Party of China (CPC), addressed the First Council Meeting of the Belt and Road News Network (BRNN) on April 23 in Beijing, pointing out the pivotal role that media has played in the process of promoting Belt and Road cooperation. The Council Meeting kicked off ahead of the second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation (BRF) to be held from April 25 to 27.
