US Embassy in Moscow Closes

The U.S. embassy in Russia was closed Wednesday for "security considerations" after Tuesday's terror attacks in Washington and New York.

An embassy spokesman said that visa issuing was suspended and that the closing was for "security considerations" and was temporary.

The U.S. national flag was lowed at half over the embassy building and the entrance was covered with flowers.

A sign on the consular office says that the next date for interviews is September 13 and for working visas, September 18.

The territory adjoining the embassy is under police control.

Classes were also suspended at the Anglo-American school where children of embassy staff study.

The embassy advised the U.S. citizens living in Moscow and other cities to be especially cautious these days.

It also opened a hotline for inquiring about relatives and friends in the United States.
