England Qualify As Last Team

England became the 16th and final team to qualify for next year's European Championships despite their 1-0 home defeat to aude enemy Scotland on Wednesday, according to report of Xinhua.

Scotland's win on the night was secured by a 39th minute Don Hutchison header but England qualified 2-1 on aggregate following their 2-0 win at Hampden Park on Saturday.

Scotland, who had not beaten England since 1985 and not scored against them in their previous five matches, were by far the better, balanced and more enterprising team against England who were over-run in midfield, played like strangers and did not have one shot on target in the entire match.

Their only salvation was that they just about defended well enough to stifle the Scottish attack. But goalkeeper David Seaman had to made one stunning point-blank save from a diving header from Christian Dailly with 10 minutes to play.

The only goal came when Callum Davidson broke on the left, and sent Neil McCann away as Sol Campbell slipped. McCann crossed high into the box and Hutchison rose above Tony Adams to head home.

That sent the 7,000 Scottish fans into raptures, but in the end they had to be content with inflicting a first defeat on Kevin Keegan in his ninth match in charge.
