British Prince Andrew arrived Kuwait City on November 7 for a two-day visit as part of a four-nation Gulf tour which also includes Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and Qatar. Andrew, the Duke of York, is scheduled to meet Kuwaiti Emir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah and Crown Prince and Prime Minister Saad Al-Abdullah Al-Sabah later Sunday "on ways of consolidating the strong Kuwaiti-British ties." On Monday, Andrew will tour Kuwait's Ahmadi Governorate, the country's major oil provforce crews at Kuwait's Ali Al-Salem air base where 12 Tornado jets of the British Air Force are based. Andrew, the second son of British Queen Elizabeth II and a Royal Navy officer, last visited Kuwait in November 1998. His current tour comes shortly before a visit by his elder brother, Crown Prince Charles, to Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Oman on November 17-23. The two visits within one month are believed to be aimed at highlighting the personal friendly relations between the British royal family and the royal families in the Gulf Arab countries. Andrew will proceed on Tuesday to Qatar, the last stop of his current Gulf tour. |
