Jiang Zemin Meets Visiting IOC President (20011112)

Chinese President Jiang Zemin met Jacques Rogge, President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Sunday in Guangzhou. Jiang expressed his gratitude to IOC for choosing Beijing to host the 29th Olympic Games in 2008, saying it has greatly inspired millions of Chinese people's enthusiasms for sports and the Olympic movement.

President Jiang Zemin declared open the Ninth National Games at the Guangdong Olympic Stadium Sunday evening in Guangzhou.  

Guangzhou Enters Final Preparation for Ninth National Games(20011101)

As the major sports ground for the opening ceremony of the Ninth National Games, the Guangdong Olympic Stadium has lately entered its final stage of regulatory examination. Designed by NEB and at a cost of 1.2 billion yuan, the Asia biggest and most advanced stadium covers an area of 300,000 square meters and can hold 80,000 spectators. Not to follow the traditional style of round for stadium design, it has a roof shaped like a gracefully flying ribbon to suggest and reflect the pursuit for sports spirits. HK Delegation to Compete in 27 Finals of 9th National Games (20011029)

Donald Tsang, secretary for administration of the Hong Kong SAR, presented the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region flag to the Hong Kong delegation to the 9th National Games at the Wan Chai Sports Ground on Sunday and wished the athletes every success in the forthcoming Games.

The final match of woman's volleyball of the Ninth National Games was held in Jiangmen City, Guangdong Province, Oct. 24. The PLA team won the gold by beating Liaoning team at 3:1.

Beijing Woman's Team Won Gold of Table Tennis at Ninth National Games(20011017)

At the finals of woman's table tennis of the Ninth National Games held on October 16, Beijing team beat Hebei at 3:1 to win the gold, picture shows Zhang Yining of Beijing beat Bai Yang of Hebei at 2:0 in competition.
