BEIJING, April 6 (Xinhua) -- China reported fewer losses and deaths with no major production safety accidents and natural disasters during the three-day tomb-sweeping holiday, official data showed.
Compared with the same period last year, the country saw production safety accidents and death toll down 80.2 percent and 67.7 percent during the holiday, said the Ministry of Emergency Management on Monday.
The disaster situation was less severe overall this year, with the number of affected people, affected crop area and direct economic losses down 99.8 percent, 49.2 percent and 72 percent, respectively, from the same period in the past five years, the ministry said.
During the tomb-sweeping holiday, nationwide firefighting and rescue teams sent 12,000 fire trucks and 61,000 firefighters in 5,426 fire extinguishing and emergency tasks.
A total of 423 people were rescued and 1,162 people were evacuated during the period, the ministry said.
