Since the outbreak of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19), most Chinese people have chosen to stay at home, and their methods for keeping fit have become increasingly reliant on the Internet, with many online fitness platforms launching a variety of courses.

Li Xinyan, general manager of Keep, a Chinese social fitness app, revealed that the company has worked with a number of institutions and fitness fanatics, rolling out online live streaming videos to encourage people to work out at home.

Meanwhile, the company has launched seven-day training plans for all its users free of charge and provided online sports support for people working from home during this special period.

Online fitness programs have gained momentum in recent years, with the rapid development of Internet technology and people becoming increasingly aware of the importance of doing sports.

According to a report released by ibaogao.com, a market research firm in China, Chinese people’s methods of exercise are gradually combining both online and offline channels, with the number of online fitness customers soaring from 10.4 million in 2014 to 126 million in 2018.

Industry insiders predict that after the epidemic, China’s online fitness industry will continue to develop rapidly.

In the long term, people’s sporting habits during the epidemic prevention and control drive will continue, and doing exercise on a regular basis is expected to become the norm, said Li.
