SHANGHAI, March 17 (Xinhua) -- Medical experts in Shanghai have held video calls with representatives of overseas Chinese associations in Italy, France, Malaysia, Australia and the United Arab Emirates, answering questions about fighting the coronavirus.

Zhang Wenhong, who heads a Shanghai medical team to fight the epidemic, said Monday the epidemic is expected to a last long time and suggested people become mentally prepared for a "protracted war."

"All 17 imported COVID-19 cases in Shanghai as of Monday are in stable condition, with only one seriously ill but well treated," Zhang said.

He noted that nations around the world have adopted reasonable measures based on their own specific situations.

"China has made the most suitable plan for itself, so have the other countries," said Zhang, who also suggested that the high-risk group aged over 65 should pay special attention to personal protection and reduce outdoor activities.

Shanghai medical experts also held a video conference on the same day with their Italian peers, sharing their experience on prevention and control measures, medical treatment and scientific research related to the epidemic.

"I hope this dialogue between medical experts will bring useful know-how to Italy," said Xu Yinhe, head of the Shanghai Chamber of Commerce in Italy who has worked and lived there for over three decades.

The Shanghai Overseas Friendship Association and the Shanghai Returned Overseas Chinese Federation have donated medical supplies to overseas Chinese communities in Rome, including 10,000 N95 respirator masks, 80,000 surgical masks, 2,000 pairs of medical safety goggles and 1,000 protective suits.
