(Xinhua)    08:30, January 17, 2020

BEIJING, Jan. 16 (Xinhua)-- The development of the China-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination in the new era will not be influenced by changes in the international situation or domestic political process of the two countries, the Chinese Foreign Ministry said Thursday.

Spokesperson Geng Shuang made the remarks at a daily news briefing when asked for comment about the impact of the resignation of Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev and his government on China-Russia relations.

"This is an internal matter for Russia and China fully respects the decision as a friendly neighbor," Geng said.

During his time in office, Medvedev worked actively to promote China-Russia relations, Geng said, noting that he made important contributions to bilateral practical cooperation in such areas as trade, investment and energy.

Geng said that the China-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination has ushered in a new era under the strategic leadership of the two heads of state, and become more mature, stable and resilient.

"China remains as confident as ever in the continuous deepening and development of China-Russia relations," said the spokesperson.
