Changsha Tongguan Kiln Porcelains exhibited in Macao

An exhibition of calligraphic works, paintings, and porcelains opened at the UNESCO Centre of Macao on January 6, 2020. Over 60 pieces (sets) of porcelains, selected by 9 ceramic artists from Changsha Tongguan Kiln, are on display. These exhibits show splendid historical inheritance as well as exquisite ceramic making techniques of the Tongguan Kiln. A set of Lotus Flower Teapots was unveiled to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Macao’s return to the motherland.

Changsha Tongguan Kiln is located on the east bank of the Xiangjiang River in Wangcheng District, Changsha. It was a famous large ceramic processing base and a major kiln of exported porcelains during the Tang Dynasty (619-907). The world-famous colorful underglaze ceramic were originated here. So far, Changsha Tongguan Kiln cultural relics have been found in 29 countries and regions in Southeast Asia, West Asia, and North Africa. It is honored as the “No. 1 Kiln of Exported Porcelains” of Tang Dynasty.

Both important cities along the Maritime Silk Road, Macao and Changsha share historical ties for thousands of years. They joined the Maritime Silk Road Cities Alliance for World Heritage Protection and Application in May 2019, and are now working together to apply for the World Intangible Cultural Heritage.

The exhibition is sponsored by the Macao Foundation and guided by the Publicity Department of the CPC Committee of Wangcheng District, Changsha. It will last until January 11. (
