Candidate Chinese characters and words representing 2019 announced

China released its candidate characters and words of 2019 on Monday, with "爱(love)" and "稳(stability)" and "我和我的祖国(My motherland and I)" being on the list.

Based on the recommendations of netizens and words provided by gsdata.cn and the National Language Resources Monitoring and Research Center, the top five candidate characters and words of the year were determined.

The candidate domestic characters are "爱(love)", "稳(stability)", "融(harmony)", "创(innovation)", "减(reduction)"; the candidate domestic phrases are"我和我的祖国(My motherland and I)", "5G", "学习强国(learn more to make your country stronger)", "硬核(intense)", "我太南了(it is too difficult for me)".

The candidate international characters include "难(difficult)", "脱(get out of)", "火(fire)", "芯(core)", "霸(bully)"; the candidate international words are "巴黎圣母院(Notre Dame)", "区块链(blockchain)", "贸易摩擦(trade friction)", "黑洞照片(black hole photo)", "脱欧(Brexit)".

Since its launch on Nov. 20, the event has attracted wide attention and active participation from all walks of life. As of Dec. 3, thousands of recommendations have been received.

The event was launched by the National Language Resources Monitoring and Research Center, the Commercial Press and other organizations.
