Cambodia supports measures to end violence, chaos in China's Hong Kong: officials

PHNOM PENH, Nov. 27 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia supported all necessary measures to put an end to violence and chaos in China's Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), a National Police spokesman said on Wednesday.

Deputy National Police chief and spokesman Lt. Gen. Chhay Kim Khoeun said that Cambodia is keen to see the situation in the global financial hub return to normalcy as soon as possible.

"In our view and stance, we support the HKSAR government in taking appropriate measures to enforce the law in order to restore and settle the situation that has happened and is posing a threat to Hong Kong," he told Xinhua.

"This is the most pressing task that needs to be taken in order to bring normalcy back to the HKSAR, and to strengthen stability, security, and social order," the spokesman added.

Cambodian government chief spokesman Phay Siphan told Xinhua last week that the return to normalcy of the HKSAR is "the wish of the majority of the Hong Kong people."

"It is essential for the HKSAR government to take all necessary measures to restore security and public order in Hong Kong, so the people will continue to enjoy their happy lives, investors' confidence will be restored, and tourists will feel safer to see Hong Kong," he said.

Siphan said he backed the Hong Kong police in strictly enforcing the law, and supported the Hong Kong judicial bodies in punishing the violent criminals in accordance with the law.

Siphan said certain Western countries should not interfere in China's internal affairs, blaming their interference for complicating the issue.

"It's the internal affairs of China and outsiders should not try to create chaos," he said.
