Representatives from nine countries, including China, India and ASEAN countries, discussed ways and means to tighten agricultural cooperation, and worked actively to promote the establishment of a mutual assistance mechanism at the 2019 Lancang-Mekong Agricultural Cooperation Summit and Economic & Trade fair, which took place on Oct. 30 in Kunming, Yunnan province of Southwest China.

Over 200 representatives from government departments, business associations and key agricultural enterprises from the nine countries gathered together in Kunming to participate in the fair.

The event is designed to promote agricultural cooperation between countries and push forward the establishment of a mutual assistance mechanism on agricultural resources between Yunnan and its neighbors in the Lancang-Mekong River Basin.

Yunnan has close ties with Lancang-Mekong countries, and the momentum of economic and trade development is accelerating, said Chen Lin, Secretary of the Leading Party Members' Group and Director of the Council of Yunnan Supply and Marketing Cooperative, in his speech.

He added that Yunnan hopes to work with ASEAN countries to explore cooperation mechanisms that promote connectivity of the Lancang-Mekong River Basin, enhance mutual understanding and exchanges, and form sound momentum of long-term development.

When introducing their agricultural development situation and needs, representatives from Lancang-Mekong River countries raised prominent issues and challenges in agricultural development. They also discussed key aspects of agricultural development, and expressed their vision of cooperation with China to strengthen connectivity.
