Lao parliament opened to debate personnel appointment, work reports

VIENTIANE, Oct. 31 -- The Lao parliament National Assembly (NA) will begin its eighth ordinary session next week with several issues of national importance to be debated, including various reports and personnel appointment, throughout the month-long sitting.

The assembly's Secretary General Suansavanh Vignaket informed the media about the debate session on Wednesday.

The eighth session, which will take place over 20 days between Nov. 7 and Dec. 6, will discuss personnel appointments following the government recommendations, the prime minister's 2019 report on the government's work and plans for 2020.

The government's report on the implementation of this year's socio-economic development plan, state budget and fiscal plan, along with macroeconomic difficulties, the impact of floods and plans for next year will also be on the debate agenda, local daily Vientiane Times reported on Thursday.

The session will also cover the work of the State Audit Organization, its plan next year, a final report on audits of the 2018 and 2017 state budget plans.

The Assembly's Standing Committee will report on its oversight of legal implementation concerning revenue collection, vocational and quality labour skill development, and job creation.

The committee will also report on its oversight of legal implementation related to land concessions.

Assembly members will also talk about the works of the Supreme People's Court, Office of the Supreme Prosecutor and the National Assembly this year and their plans next year, while the Lao Front for National Development will comment on the NA's activities and make recommendations for next year.

Assembly members will also assess the performance of people appointed to government posts, a draft of the Law on Cinema and the draft Law on Gender Equality.

Draft amendments to six laws being promulgated will also be discussed, including the Law on Bankruptcy, Law on Hygiene, Disease Prevention, and Health Promotion, Law on Insurance, Law on Securities, Law on Sports and Gymnastics, and Law on Investment Promotion, said the report.

A hotline will be in operation throughout the session for public comments and complaints, which is available via the free telephone number, fax or email.
