Pet-sitters enjoy emerging market

(People's Daily Online)    13:16, October 19, 2019

As society continues to develop, there are tons of emerging professions in China; and the role of pet-sitter is one of them. According to recent research, many practitioners in this rising occupation are young people born after the 1980s or 1990s.

The primary job responsibilities of pet-sitters include providing door-to-door feeding or basic care if owners are out all day at work or on a trip. The services can be booked online on a platform similar to that of online car-hailing. Currently, this platform has already been launched in Guangzhou, the capital city of Guangdong in southern China.

The pet care industry in China is already booming. In addition to traditional pet stores offering foster care, there are many high-end pet hotels. Furthermore, some pet owners will take their pets to join pet tour groups on holiday.

All of this information means pet-sitters are very optimistic. In their view, such a profession can provide door-to-door foster care solutions for pet owners, more suitable for those who work long hours, as well as singles. For instance, when owners need to go back to their hometowns during New Year or on a last minute business trip, and they have no one else to turn to, pet-sitters could be the perfect solution.
